Exhibition shared with one other artist at Lauderdale House, 1997
This exhibition comprises paintings completed over three years prior to 1996, which reflected different experiences and themes during that time in my early fifties.
The two paintings of my nephew’s boat moored at Cheyne Walk in Chelsea were very poignant as this was my route to school in Chelsea over Battersea Bridge many years previously.
There are several paintings of the car boot sales at William Ellis School where I and my family spent many sociable hours with friends and family both as stall holders and browsers.
There are also several paintings involving keys and derelict houses with plenty of metaphors to interpret!
In the painting of the Brighton House I used illusion to attempt to express the magic we experienced when visiting Brighton over the years. I was influenced by Magritte’s work using an image of Brighton Pier in the work.
Possibly, my favourite painting from this exhibition is the ‘Chair'. The chair was discovered in Surrey whilst driving through the countryside with an old friend. I spotted the chair from the car window dumped by the side of the road.Thumbnails for this exhibition are shown below, please click to enlarge them.
